GULF OF MEXICO SITE SPECIFIC SUMMARY DATE: THURSDAY MAR 11 2010 TIME: 800 CST GULF OF MEXICO SUMMARY: Light to moderate south to southwest winds will continue this morning ahead of an approaching cold front. This front will push off the Texas coast early this afternoon, with moderate northwest winds gradually increasing behind it. Strong northwest winds shift to the west tomorrow afternoon then to the west and southwest Saturday as high pressure moves into the southern Gulf, behind the front. EXTENDED OUTLOOK: High pressure moving east will allow for light to occasionally moderate south to southeast winds Sunday. Winds are then expected to increase and shift to the east and northeast Monday and Tuesday in response to a developing low pressure system over the southwest Gulf. Models indicate the storm system will push east through the southern Gulf Wednesday, with moderate to strong north winds following behind it. FORECAST CONFIDENCE: FAIR/MARGINAL FOR EXTENDED SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK: Showers and thunderstorms will gradually diminish over the eastern leases. Winds and seas will be higher in and around any of the stronger storms. Fog is expected to linger near the coast through this morning over waters west of 88W.
