GULF OF MEXICO SITE SPECIFIC SUMMARY DATE: THURSDAY MAR 18 2010 TIME: 800 CDT GULF OF MEXICO SUMMARY: Light to moderate north to northwest winds shift to the east and southeast this afternoon as a high pressure system moves through the southern US. Winds become more southerly tomorrow, while steadily increasing, in response to a developing cold front over the Rockies. This front will push off the Texas coast early Saturday afternoon, with very strong to gale force north to northwest winds following behind it through Sunday morning. EXTENDED OUTLOOK: High pressure moving back into the region will allow for north winds to decrease Sunday afternoon and Monday, while gradually shifting to the northeast. Moderate to strong south to southeast winds are expected to return Tuesday and Wednesday as a second cold front develops over the central US. FORECAST CONFIDENCE: FAIR SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK: Severe weather is not expected to develop over the Gulf today.
