GULF OF MEXICO SITE SPECIFIC SUMMARY DATE: SATURDAY OCT 8 2011 TIME: 800 CDT GULF OF MEXICO SUMMARY: High pressure over the eastern US combined with a broad area of low pressure over the northwestern Caribbean will allow strong easterly winds to persist over the leases today. The low is expected to move north tomorrow and Monday, possibly into the eastern Gulf or southern Florida, keeping the pressure gradient tight and causing strong winds to continue. The low will be monitored for any signs of development. EXTENDED OUTLOOK: Winds are expected to decrease on Tuesday and Wednesday as a weak cold front moves through the Gulf. Models indicate a second weak cold front to move into the Gulf on Friday. FORECAST CONFIDENCE: MARGINAL SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK: Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue over the Gulf today. Winds and seas will be higher in and around any of the heavier thunderstorms. TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: Tropical Storm Philippe is located near 31.1N 50.1W, moving rapidly to the east-northeast at 21 knots. Philippe is expected to become extratropical in the next 12-24 hours. A tropical wave is located along 7N 45W moving west at 15-20 knots.
